KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA-
Media OutReach Newswire
- 23 October 2025 - As Shopee Malaysia marks its 10th anniversary, the
platform celebrates a decade of empowering local entrepreneurs. From a
simple online marketplace, Shopee has evolved into a trusted partner,
helping thousands of Malaysians turn ideas into thriving businesses and
reach audiences beyond borders.
This milestone feature revisits that journey through the stories of two
sellers: George Cheah and Kenneth Soon. Their experiences reflect
Shopee's mission of enabling local success through initiatives such as
Fulfilled by Shopee (FBS) and the
MY-SG Direct Programme (MY-SG Direct). Beyond growing their own
businesses through Shopee's tools, they pay it forward by mentoring
other entrepreneurs, strengthening Malaysia's seller community together
with the platform.
How FBS Helped George Build Efficiency and Give Back to His Community
Seven years ago,
George Cheah joined Shopee when job opportunities were scarce,
determined to forge his own path in business. Early in his journey, he
recognised how
FBS could serve as a powerful enabler for small businesses, helping them to streamline operations and improve delivery efficiency.
“It freed up my time and opened new revenue opportunities without the
worry of warehousing or additional operational costs,” he said. Since
adopting
FBS in February 2025, his store has gained an additional
400 orders monthly, all while maintaining his current workforce,
demonstrating how the system optimised both his operational efficiency
and sales. The growth also enabled him to create
20 jobs within his own company in Alor Setar, Kedah, giving back to the community in a way that reflects his own journey.
Beyond his own business,
George continues to pay his success forward through his work as a
ShopeeXpert, guiding sellers on how to manage orders efficiently,
handle high sales volumes, and run promotions smoothly. “It's rewarding
to see how my insights have helped other sellers become more efficient
and confident through better fulfilment support,” George remarked. Over
the past four years,
George has taught over
1,000 local budding entrepreneurs, turning his individual success into community impact.
How Kenneth Leveraged MY-SG Direct to Grow His Business and Others
After joining Shopee five years ago,
Kenneth Soon decided to expand his health and beauty business,
Idea Inovasi, which offers products like sanitisers, toothbrushes, and physio equipment, to the international stage through
MY-SG Direct.
Like many sellers,
Kenneth initially found overseas expansion daunting. The
MY-SG Direct became his turning point, simplifying logistics,
payments, and customer support. “It gave me confidence knowing Shopee
manages the cross-border process, so I can focus on optimising my
product selection and pricing strategy,” he shared. Since joining
MY-SG Direct four months ago, his store has gained an average of
100 orders per month from Singapore. His base of repeat buyers
also continues to grow, reflecting the trust in the quality of his
products.
As an active member of the
Bintang Komuniti,
Kenneth is recognised not only for his business success but also
for helping others thrive. “One seller I mentored struggled with sales,
but after guidance on product photos, keyword optimisation, and pricing,
her orders grew steadily, especially after joining the
MY-SG Direct. Today, her products sell consistently in both Malaysia and Singapore!” he said. Kenneth believes programmes like
MY-SG Direct will continue empowering Malaysian sellers to test
new markets, understand international demand, and build regional brands.
“It's fulfilling to see how I've helped Malaysian businesses grow on
their own terms and reach new customers in Singapore,” he added.
Decade of Impact & Future Potential
Through the journeys of
George Cheah and
Kenneth Soon, Shopee Malaysia's 10th anniversary celebrates the

how Shopee empowers entrepreneurs through programmes that help them
operate more efficiently and free up time to give back to others in
their community. Together, they strengthen Malaysia's digital economy,
one order at a time.
