SHANGHAI, CHINA -
Media OutReach Newswire - 4 November 2026 - German nutrition brand inne has outlined plans to expand its presence in China through locally developed "Blue Hat" products and research partnerships, as international nutrition companies seek to respond more closely to the needs of Chinese consumers and the country's regulatory requirements.
The strategy was announced at a forum on the development of international nutrition brands in China, held at the European Chamber in Shanghai on 26 October. Representatives from industry bodies, including the China Society for Market Regulation and the China Chamber of Commerce for Import & Export of Medicines & Health Products, discussed product innovation, scientific research and regulatory compliance in China's nutrition sector.
The event came amid growing attention to the development of China's nutrition industry, including efforts to strengthen scientific research, product innovation and industry standards. In 2026, the Development Research Center of the State Administration for Market Regulation undertook a research project examining innovation in the sector, with international brands among the cases considered.
Founded in SaarbrĂĽcken, Germany, inne develops nutritional products for children and adults. The company says it operates four R&D centres worldwide and holds more than 270 patents. Since entering China, it has expanded its product portfolio and developed partnerships with local research institutions.
Jens Geber, inne's global marketing director, said the company's long-term China strategy would focus on two priorities: developing products for the domestic market and expanding collaboration with Chinese research institutions.
He said inne aimed to bring together its international research capabilities and a closer understanding of Chinese consumers' nutritional needs, while maintaining quality management and regulatory compliance throughout product development and marketing.
Local product development is a central part of the strategy. The company unveiled its first portfolio of products under China's "Blue Hat" regulatory framework, which requires products to obtain registration or complete the relevant filing procedures before carrying the designation.
The portfolio comprises Calcium, Zinc and Vitamin D Oral Liquid; Zinc and Multivitamin Oral Liquid; and Vitamin C Oral Liquid. The three products are scheduled to enter the Chinese market in November 2026.
The move is intended to broaden inne's presence beyond its existing cross-border ecommerce business, enabling the company to develop products for domestic distribution channels under China's regulatory framework.
Local research partnerships form the second part of the strategy. Dr Emily Zhou, head of research and development at inne China, said differences in dietary patterns, lifestyles and nutritional status across populations made local scientific research essential to understanding consumer needs.
The company has worked with Chinese hospitals, universities and research institutions on projects covering basic nutritional supplementation, eye health and bone health. According to inne, findings from some of these collaborations have been published in international journals indexed by the Science Citation Index.
Wang Guan, deputy director of the Huaxi Innovation Research Center at West China Hospital of Sichuan University, highlighted the importance of combining population-based research with studies of underlying biological mechanisms. Both approaches, he said, were needed to assess the effects of nutritional products and understand how they work.
inne's activities in China were also included as an international brand case study in the 2026 Research Report on the Innovative Development of China's Nutritional Products Industry, published by the Development Research Center of the State Administration for Market Regulation and the Shenzhen Academy of Metrology and Quality Inspection.
The inclusion reflects the growing attention being paid to how international nutrition brands adapt their research, product development and business operations to China's domestic market.
For inne, the strategy represents a longer-term effort to combine its German research background with local product development and scientific collaboration as it expands its business in China.
